Educational Objectives
- Describe how self-monitoring of blood glucose can be used most
effectively in patients with type 2 diabetes not taking insulin.
- Identify the ways continuous glucose monitoring can assist in
improving glycemic control in children, adults, and pregnant women
with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
- Recognize the importance of glycemic variability in producing
complications of diabetes.
- Understand which of the various technologies (e.g., insulin
delivery devices, fingerstick and continuous glucose meters, pumps)
would be most appropriate for patients with type 1 and type 2
diabetes.
- Compare the benefits and risks of mobile health technologies for
management of diabetes.
- Identify the patients in whom bariatric surgery is appropriate
for primary management of diabetes.
